60+ Keyboard Shortcuts for Browsers

Here’s a list of some useful Shortcuts to use:

  • When Browsing a Web Page:
    • Scroll:
      • Space Bar – Scroll down
      • Shift+Space Bar – scroll up
      • Middle Mouse Click once – Sets Point of Joystick to Pan around
      • Scroll Wheel – Scroll Up/Down
      • Shift + Scroll Wheel – Scroll Left/Right
      • Arrow Keys Scroll in the 4 directions
      • Home – Top of Page
      • End – Bottom of Page
      • Page Up/Down – Moves about a Page
    • Zoom:
      • Ctrl+Scroll Wheel or (+/-) – Zoom
      • Ctrl+0 – view at 100%
    • Tabs:
      • Ctrl+T – opens a New Tab
      • Ctrl F4 or Ctrl+W or Middle-click on – closes Active Tab
      • Ctrl+Shift T – reopen Closed Tabs or windows, one by one
      • Ctrl+Tab – go Forward through the open tabs (Hold for Speed)
      • Ctrl+Shift+Tab – go Backward through the open tabs (Hold for speed)
      • Ctrl+1-8 – switches to that Tab
      • Ctrl+9 – switches to the last Tab
      • F5 or Ctrl+R – Reloads Active Tab
      • Esc – Stop from Loading or Reloading Active Tab
      • Shift+Esc – Opens Tab Task Manager to find large or slow pages to close
      • Duplicate Tab – Alt+D > Alt+Enter (keep holding Alt is fine)

        • Ctrl+Left Mouse Click – Opens link in New Background Tab
        • Ctrl+Shift+Left Mouse Click – Opens link in New Foreground Tab
        • Shift+Left Mouse Click – Opens link in New Window
      • F7 – Caret Browsing (Firefox), forces Caret to be inserted where clicked
    • Navigation
      • Alt+Left/Right Arrows – moves Forward & Back
      • Alt+Home – goes to your Homepage
      • Alt+Scroll – Moves Forward & backward through Tab History (Firefox)
    • Windows:
      • Ctrl+N – Opens a New Window
      • Ctrl+Shift+N – New Incognito Window (Chrome)
        • Ctrl+Shift+P – New Incognito Window (Firefox)
      • Ctrl+Shift+W – Closes Active Window
        • Alt+F4 – always closes Active Windows, including Browsers
      • Ctrl+Shift+T – Reopen Closed Windows & Tabs one by one
      • F11 – Enters & Exits Fullscreen
    • Address & Search Bar:
      • F6 or Alt+D – Focus Address Bar
      • Ctrl+E – Focus Search Bar
      • Ctrl+K – Focuses Address bar & forces search with Default Search Engine
        • Useful for performing a Web Search for a domain with www/.com
      • Alt+Enter – Search Results in New Tab
        • (Alt+D followed by Alt+Enter Duplicates a Tab)
      • Ctrl+Enter – adds ‘www’ to front and ‘.com’ to end of the word in address bar (must not have any spaces)
        • If hitting Ctrl+V to paste a word, you have to release Ctrl then press Ctrl+Enter to create a Web Address of it & Search
      • # – ‘#’ then Enter takes you to your Search Engine’s Home Page (Chrome)
        • ‘#’ then Alt+Enter opens your Search Engine’s Home Page in a new tab
    • Functionality:
      • Alt+E/F – Menu
      • F10 – Focus Menu
      • Shift+F10 – Right-click Menu
      • Ctrl+J – Downloads
      • Ctrl+H – History
      • Ctrl+D – Bookmark current page
      • Ctrl+Shift+D – Bookmark all open tabs to a new or existing folder
      • Ctrl+Shift+B – Show/Hide Bookmark Bar or Open Bookmarks
      • Ctrl+O – Open a document, to test your html etc
      • Find:
        • F3 or Ctrl+F or Ctrl+G – Find in Page (Esc to close)
        • Ctrl+G – Find Next
        • Ctrl+Shift+G – Find Previous
      • Ctrl+P – Print
      • Ctrl+Shift+P – Open Print Dialog (Chrome)
      • Ctrl+Shift+Delete – Clear Browsing Data
      • Ctrl+U – View Page Source Code
      • F12 or Ctrl+Shift+I or Ctrl+Shift+C – Opens Elements
      • Ctrl+Shift+J – Opens Browser Console
      • Ctrl+S – Save As…
