How to Assemble & Attach the New Internal Laptop Cable Connectors

The new small black cable connector assemblies are quite difficult to assemble if you havent seen them before, or how to connect them

They are very fragile and can seem impossible to put together, especially the wider ones

There are 2 types:

Wide & Narrow

  • Removal
    • Carefully lift the black piece up 45 degrees, and slide the cable out
    • Press the black piece back down to keep it secure and prevent it from accidentally falling out
  • Assembly
    • Carefully lift the black piece up 45 degrees only, and no further
    • Slide the cable directly under the black piece, and centered between the 2 side raised bars
    • Be sure its secured all the way to the back
    • Press the black piece back down firmly

if it doesnt work, do the following:

  • Narrow, 4-6 strand cable connectors
    • Removal
      • Very carefully loosen the black rectangular plastic bar by slowly pulling it back with a pair of wide-nosed blunt tweezers to work the connector loose, then separate the cable from the motherboard by carefully pulling it directly out backwards
    • Assembly
      • Look carefully at the both ends of the black plastic rectangular bar and make sure the raised lip on the side arms is facing up, the underside is smooth
      • Very carefully insert the black rectangular bar underneath the pins, and fit it snugly against the back of the pin enclosure on the motherboard
      • Slide the cable exactly in the middle of the pin enclosure, beneath the black plastic bar, and press it in as far as it will go, until it is very tight and cannot come loose
  • Wide, 20-30 strand cables connectors

      • Slide the cable exactly in the middle of the pin enclosure slightly
      • Use a pair of flat, un-grooved, jewelers needle-nosed pliers to grasp the cable behind the thin dark line, and carefully slide one side of the cable into place, then the other
      • Slide it in until the dark line on the cables lines up directly above the white line on the laptop motherboard, and will not come loose.
