Quick Color Replacement Tools in PS

1. Hue Saturation

  • Hit Ctrl + U
  • Select any color from Drop Down List
  • Select the Eyedropper
  • Click the color in the image you want to change
  • Click on the +Eyedropper
  • Click again on the lightest and darkest areas of that color
  • Slide the Hue Bar to the desired Color
  • Adjust Saturation
  • Edit>Fade tool to back it out
  • (if you have more than one area with the same color, but only want to choose one of them, isolate the item you want by quickly separating it from other objects in the image of similar colors with a selection tool, then proceed with the procedure above)

2. Paint Brush

  • Select the Color you want to change to
  • Select the “Color” Blend mode
  • Paint over the the color you wish to replace
  • Edit>Fade Tool… to back it out

3. Color Replacement Tool

  • Set Mode to ‘Color’
  • Select the ‘Once Target’ Brush
  • Click and hold on the Color you want to replace and drag around the area
  • Re-Click every time you get to a slightly different Shade of the color you want to replace
  • Edit>Fade Tool… to bring under colors out

4. Layer Blending

  • Select the item you want to change colors, with any Selection tool
  • Adjust Hue or Jump it to a new Layer, Ctrl+J, then adjust Hue

5. Clipping Masks

  • Select the item you want to change colors, with any Selection tool
  • Ctrl+Jump to a new layer
  • Create a new Color or pattern, colored pattern layer and/or Design layer
  • Place the design & color layers above the selection layer you want to color
  • Alt+click between each of the two layers
  • Set the Pattern & Design layers to blend mode to Overlay, Multiply, Screen, or Color
