How to Extract all Email Addresses from a Large Document in Word

  • Go to “Find” (Ctrl + F)
  • Select “Use Wild Cards”
  • Type in the following: [a-zA-Z0-9\-_.]{1,}\@[a-zA-Z0-9\-_.]{1,}
  • Select “Find in” and select “Main Document”
  • Close the Find box
  • Click on the document header to change focus to that window
  • Right-click and select copy
  • Paste wherever you want

you’ll notice [a-zA-Z0-9\-_.]{1,} then \@ then another [a-zA-Z0-9\-_.]{1,}

the symbols -_. are the symbols allowed in emails

then a-z, and A-Z, and 0-9, are all the characters allowed
\@ must have an \ because @ is also a symbol used in Words Search Algorithms, so the \ is to show that we are searching for the @ symbol

so $&%:123aBc@123Bc.com.cn will be selected only as 123aBc@123Bc.com.cn
